Pizza Thoughts

The short answer: yes.

The long answer: well… sort of.

When trying to meet your health or weight loss goals, no food is inherently “bad”. However, there are certain foods that will result in a better outcome than others. For example, having a high protein meal with vegetables and complex carbs is probably going to be more beneficial than eating a couple slices of greasy, cheesy pizza (even if it does sound delicious). However, having a slice every now and then will not kill your progress and might even be beneficial psychologically. Taking diet breaks occasionally can help prevent burnout, diet relapses or large setbacks. The key word here is OCCASIONALLY. By occasionally I mean once every week to four weeks, not every evening.

This will also depend on your goals. Keep in mind, if you are trying to cut large amounts of weight, achieve shredz status, or look like a Roman god, eating pizza on the regular is probably not the way to go and you will have to be more dedicated to your diet. If you are just trying to be healthy and maintain your weight, enjoying a pie with friends probably won’t affect your progress.

Another solution for those pizza cravings is creating pizza alternatives. There are tons of ways to make pizza from scratch with either low carb cauliflower crusts, flatbreads, or even whole wheat crusts depending on your macro goals. Add your favorite marinara, top with chicken (or another lean protein) and vegetables and you have the perfect pizza to fit any diet. It probably won’t taste like conventional pizza, but if you are deep in a diet it will probably be suffice.
